Bharat, one of the famous places of the country, is the district headquarters of Chitwan. It lies at the bank of the Narayani, the deepest river in Nepal. It is about 148 km southwest of the capital city of the country. It is a rapidly growing and developing city in the central development region of the country. It is the centre for the vehicles that go to Kathmandu, eastern part and western part of the country. Each vehicle passes through it along the Mahendra Highway. Bharatpur has its hot and dry climate. The land there is very fertile. Various kind of grains, fruits, vegetables, etc. are produced. Because of the fertility of the land and urbanization as well, the poverty of the people is said to have been eliminated (उन्मूलन भएको). Bharatpur exports mustard oil, rice, vegetables, fruits, etc. to other parts of the country, especially to the capital city, Kathmandu. Devghat which lies on the bank of the river is a very famous religious place in Nepal. Bharatpur is packed with the growing population. Generally 70 thousand people live in Bharatpur.
